Chapter 33 – GI Bill Recipients
GI Bill benefits cannot be used directly at the bookstore. At any point after the drop/add period, the VA will submit payment for tuition, fees, and billed course materials (Day1Access) directly to the University based on a student’s service award benefit. Any funds in excess of the student’s total invoice will be refunded directly to the student. Unless the student has been awarded a different source of financial aid that qualifies for the Financial Aid Advance, the student is required to pay out of pocket for course materials and supplies. For students who are unable to pay out of pocket before any excess GI Bill payments are refunded, they may consider requesting an EagleXpress Package through Eagle Card Services.
Chapter 31 – VR&E Recipients
VR&E benefits may be used directly at the bookstore. Students who have been authorized by the VA and certified by Military Science for the current semester are eligible to purchase course materials and standard supplies up to the pre-approved amounts. Technology purchases like graphing calculators, iClickers, computers, and computer accessories, require additional special authorization from the student’s VA counselor.
After a student has been awarded VR&E benefits through the VA (typically on an annual basis), the student must complete a Benefits Request to Military Science through their MyGS portal prior to the beginning of EVERY semester. Once the student has been certified, they will receive an acknowledgement email from Military Science with instructions to complete a Google Form requesting that their bookstore account be activated. The bookstore will activate the student’s account and notify the student by email with instructions for making in-store and online purchases. If authorized for textbooks, all required course materials are covered. If authorized for supplies, standard school supplies up to the stated limit (or $50 if not specified) may be purchased. Shipping fees are also covered.
A copy of each purchase receipt/invoice (in-store & online purchases) must be signed by the student and emailed to bookprogram@georgiasouthern.edu. The VA will not honor VR&E purchases without a signed receipt.
